Frutto della Passione

Taking the plunge

After months and months of reading some marvelous (and not so marvelous) food blogs I finally convinced myself to dive in head first and do what I have been daydreaming about for quite some time.
So, even though I am a little nervous, here I am writing my first post.
Since I need to walk before I can run I want to share something that I love to make, something that is so versatile and easy that it can be literally done at the last minute. It is a vanilla sauce and I got the recipe from a restaurant in Selva di Val Gardena, Alto Adige. They serve it on apple strudel, but I have used it on french toast, waffles, pandoro, and brownies. It can be served hot or cold.
I hope you enjoy it.
Ingredients
2 eggs
150 grams sugar
180 cc milk
180 cc whipping cream
1 vanilla bean
Cut the vanilla bean in half length-wise (scrape away any seeds if there are any) and place in a saucepan with the milk and cream. Bring the mixture to a boil. Beat the eggs and sugar and then add to the mixture in the saucepan and simmer for 2 to 3 minutes. Pour the sauce through a strainer to remove any lumps.
