Frutto della Passione

A menu, a meme and a memory

The Menu

We’ve moved recently and Saturday we had our first dinner guests in the new apartment. My challenge was to prepare a menu that would appeal to everyone without driving me completely insane, because this time around I left everything to the last minute. It was the first time that we had ever invited these friends into our home and I was a little unsure of what they would and wouldn’t like. I finally came up with this menu that reflects my Abruzzese heritage as well as my very North American dedication to rich desserts!

Spaghetti all chitarra with mushrooms, white truffle oil and saffron

Lamb roasted in red wine

Roast Potatoes and salad

White Chocolate Cheesecake

Red Wine: Bùcaro – Montepulciano D’Abruzzo DOC

Recipes coming up next week but here is a sneak preview:

The Meme

I have been tagged for my very first meme by the fabulous Goddess in the Groove, which was a big surprise. So here we go with the meme portion of today’s post.

The rules for this meme are:

  • Link to your tagger and post these rules on your blog.
  • Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird.
  • Tag 7 people at the end of your post by leaving their names and links to their blogs.
  • Tell them that they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.
  1. I don’t like Woody Allen movies and it has taken me most of my adult life to admit that.
  2. I have never eaten a pop tart. It just sort of worked out that way.
  3. I miss Canadian winters but I love spring in Italy.
  4. I like to pour maple syrup over vanilla ice cream.
  5. I stopped smoking a year and a half ago but I still get cravings.
  6. I have seen every version of Pride and Prejudice.
  7. My mom took me to my first concert (The Bay City Rollers, CNE Grandstand, 1977).

I am tagging: Milanese Masala,  Suitcase Contents, Simple Beauty, and I am inviting anyone else who wants to post this meme on their blog and hasn’t already done it, to do so.

The Memory

For some reason this time of year seems to trigger more childhood memories than any other. I particularly remember an old box camera of my father’s that he gave me when I was 11 or 12. It was in excellent condition except for the flash, so I could only take pictures outdoors. I seem to remember that he gave it to me at Easter, but my memory could be playing tricks on me. I distinctly remember taking my first picture with it, one of the whole family, all dressed up and on our way to mass. I wonder where that picture is now and whatever happened to that old box camera.
