Frutto della Passione

Raspberry orange yogurt pops!

July 4, 2008 · 8 Comments

If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.  And that’s pretty much what I did.

For the record, I will not complain about the weather.  After nearly two and a half months of rain it was time for summer to start.  So it would be wrong of me to complain about the heat and humidity and the mosquitoes the size of blue jays, nope, not gonna do it.

But I’m not going to turn my oven on either.  Va bene tutto, but I’m not going to go looking for trouble!

I don’t want to neglect my blog either, so what’s a girl to do?

I don’t have an ice cream maker so that is out of the question, but I do have popsicle molds (bought at my local Ikea).

I also have a fancy cocktail shaker that my youngest sister gave me for Christmas one year, so … popsicles and cocktails might be the new craze around here.  At least until the weather breaks!

I was going for tart – as things that are too sweet make me even thirstier my goal was to make something that would not only be cool but also tackle my thirst.  Another bonus is that if you look at the list of ingredients you will notice that these can be a great addition to breakfast!  After all it gets up past 40°C (104°F) with 90% humidity here in the city.  As for the unimaginative name for them, well what can I say, my brain stalled.  I would truly love any name suggestions, so share’em if ya got’em!

Ingredients

1 container plain yogurt

200 ml orange juice

18 raspberries

In a bowl, whisk the yogurt and orange juice together until smooth.  Drop 3 berries in each mold and add the yogurt/juice mixture.  Freeze overnight.

I think I’ll add this to the Frozen Dessert event being held over at Mike’s Table.

Enjoy!

I do remember eating these as a kid. You know, there was always one kid’s home that all the other kids would congregate at. The poor mom had to feed all the neighborhood. These definitely kept us cool during the summer…thanks for the memory lane moment!
My grandmother used to make them using Jello! I had them as a kid too, which is why I bought the molds in the first place. My son is unimpressed, but my hubby and I are having a blast with them!

104? Okay I will stop complaining about it being 90 here.

I have to buy a blender so I can make some smoothies. I love cold fresh fruit like your pops on a hot summer day.
Not to contribute to the old Milan/Rome rivalry, but, our mosquitoes are bigger and meaner than yours too!
Between the pospsicles and the cocktails my diet has flown out the window!

Now I understand why my husband refused to live/work in Milan, no matter how great the pay was. It’s been a much more agreeable 25-27°C in Lecco’s mountains but you’ve inspired me to make use of my popsicle molds from Ikea! Yippee!
Lecco is gorgeous. We used to escape to Lecco and Como on weekends when I was pregnant to get out of the crazy heat and pollution. I envy you your garden Rowena!

Great idea. I need to get those molds. A quicker , but just as satisfying treat, as churning ice cream. Plus healthier!
And I am having fun trying out new combinations!

I’m so happy I got my molds the other day. You’ve inspired me to get “poppin’”. As for the name, how about “Tarty Pops”? Well, there just might be some copyright issues there.
Actually *Popsicle* is a brand name, I shouldn’t be using it. Bad me. Bad, bad me.

What a coincidence : Some days ago I was telling my bf that we should buy these popsicles, so I could make some refreshments, we went all around Ikea to find them but no luck. When I find them, I will surely try out your recipe! Looks delicous!
They are great to have in the house and so much fun to experiment with! Let me know if you try any new recipes!

What cute pops! I used to make some like these when my daughter was little. Much healthier to make them yourself with juice!
When I was a kid, my grandmother made them with Jello!
